AKA, Costa Titch Score Afrimma Nominations
The nominations are in, and two belated South African rappers are up for “Best Male Southern Africa” at the 2023 African Muzik Magazine (Afrimma) Awards.
On Wednesday, 9 August, the nominations for the “Best Male Southern Africa”, along with several other categories, were revealed: nine African musicians received a nod, including homegrown rappers AKA and Costa Titch.
AKA – real name Kiernan Forbes – was fatally shot in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal alongside his close friend, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, while leaving a popular restaurant back in February. He was 35-years-old.
Costa Titch – real name Constantinos Tsobanoglou – tragically passed away just a month later after he collapsed onstage during a performance at the Ultra South Africa festival in Johannesburg, Gauteng. He was 28-years-old.
Also nominated in this category are DJ Maphorisa, Sjava and Musa Keys (all representing South Africa), as well as Han-C (Botswana), DJ Tarico (Mozambique), Macky2 (Zambia), and Winky D (Zimbabwe).
Additionally, AKA’s “Mass Country” scored a nod for “Afrimma Album of the Year”, while Costa Titch is also under consideration for “Best Collaboration” and “Afrimma Video of the Year” for his work on “Shetani” by Mboso.
Fans have little over a month to cast as many votes as possible before the winners are announced on 17 September at the Meyerson Symphony Centre in Dallas, Texas.
